Latium Legal Talent — bilingual legal talent for U.S. law firms
Your first remote hire, without the guesswork.
New to working with a remote legal assistant? Most firms are, at first. Here’s what it actually looks like, why firms do it, and how to set your new team member up to succeed from day one.
What is it like to work with a remote legal assistant?
A lot like having your assistant at the desk next to you. Some firms keep a Zoom window open all day with their Latium hire, so it feels like they’re right there in the office: you ask a question, they answer. Others stay in constant contact through team chat like Microsoft Teams or Slack. Either way, your remote team member works your hours, in your systems, as part of your team.
Why are law firms hiring remote?
1. You get more for your budget.
A remote hire typically costs a fraction of a comparable local hire. You pay one placement fee (from $3,500, depending on the role), then pay the professional directly. No agency markup on every hour they work.
2. You can finally find the talent you need.
Finding a bilingual legal professional locally is hard, and many firms wait months. Hiring remotely opens a much wider talent pool, so you can find professionals fluent in English and Spanish who are ready to take your clients’ calls, follow up, and keep files moving. Need a role that doesn’t require Spanish? We find strong candidates for those too.
How do we know who we’re getting?
You don’t hire a stranger:
- Personally interviewed. Each candidate is assessed for bilingual ability, experience, and fit through a personal interview before they reach your shortlist.
- Reference checks. We check references before you see a profile.
- Confidentiality agreement. Every candidate signs one with Latium, and you can add your firm’s own NDA.
- You decide. You interview the shortlist and choose who to hire.
- 90-day replacement guarantee. If the hire doesn’t work out, we find you a replacement.
Many candidates bring legal education or law-office experience; others bring comparable experience, such as client intake, insurance, or customer service. You tell us what the role requires.
How do we get ready for our first remote hire?
Before day one: onboarding checklist
- Firm-controlled email and accounts (never personal ones)
- Access to your case-management system, phone system, and shared drive, limited to what the role needs
- Your NDA, policies, and any security training
- A short written guide to how your firm handles calls, intake, and escalation
- A named attorney or manager they report to
Set the hours and overlap. Decide which hours the role must cover and how much overlap you need with your office. We match candidates to your time zone and schedule.
Agree on a communication rhythm. A quick morning check-in, a live line during the day (Zoom, Teams, or Slack), and a short end-of-day update work well for most firms.
Start with defined tasks. Begin with clear, repeatable work, such as answering Spanish-language calls, scheduling, intake follow-up, or document organization. Add responsibility as trust builds.
Who supervises a remote legal assistant?
Your firm does, just as with in-office staff. Placed professionals work in supervised support roles and never give legal advice. Your attorneys remain responsible for their work under ABA Model Rule 5.3. They work in your systems, under your supervision, by your rules.
Is our client data safe?
You stay in control. Use firm-provided accounts and, if you choose, firm-managed devices. Grant access by role, use multi-factor authentication, and remove access the same day if anyone leaves. Please don’t share client information with anyone before they’re hired.
What should the first 90 days look like?
- First 30 days: Daily check-ins. Focus on your systems, call scripts, and defined tasks. Give quick, specific feedback.
- Days 31–60: Move to a few check-ins a week. Add more responsibility, such as intake follow-up or calendar management.
- Days 61–90: Weekly check-ins. Review what’s working, adjust the role, and plan what’s next. Your 90-day replacement guarantee runs through this period.
